Sliders Generative Soundscape Maker
A downloadable tool for Windows, macOS, and Linux
An array of Sliders and sounds allowing chaotic creation of generative algorithmic musical patterns.
THE CONCEPT:
You can generate a very short musical pattern and by applying algorythmical "abstractions", create much longer endlessly looping patterns that follow generative mathematical rules. By assigning different tones to each of 4 musical nodes intriguing soundscapes can be formed.
THE CONTROLS:
Instrument 1-4: select one of 1160 tones for each instrument node.
Transpose Master Pitch: Shift the entire pitch up or down.
Pitch Limit: define the highest pitch allowed.
Sequence Tempo: set speed of musical pattern.
Generate Timing Sequence: randomly generate a new pattern timing.
Sequence Length: set how many steps in the pattern.
Generate Note Sequence: randomly generate a new sequence of notes.
Chorus Level: Set chorus effect volume.
Generate Chorus Sequence: randomly generate a new chorus movement sequence.
Sub one/two/three instrument: Sets each of three additional instrument parts a different tone.
Sub one/two/three tuning: offsets the pitch of instrument 2-4.
Abstraction One/Two/Three/Four: each of these add simple mathematical rules to the sequence to create generative patterns.
Warp Pitch: Adds a pitch bend effect.
Reverb Diffuse/Decay/Density: Sets the parameters of the Reverb echo effect.
PLAY/PAUSE: Pauses and restarts the playing of the sequence.
The Play Buttons: Preview each instrument sound (best used when sequence is paused)

Features I'd like to see added to Sliders:
Volume knob for each instrument
Text field for each instrument so we can directly input number for tones we like. The slider is kind of awkward to dial in a particular tone.
Ability to save presets
Each instrument with it's own effect chain echo, reverb, etc..
Save as WAV file
The exact number input would be amazing. The sliders are pretty finicky.
I love this! Was playing around with it for such a long time and definitely plan on creating some soundscapes with this. Highly recommend.
There are few things I think would really improve the experience.
-Being able to save a slider so I can reopen a soundscape at any time (currently I have a bunch of screenshots)
- Sliders can be a bit frustrating to get an exact number. Maybe an option to input a number into sliders (especially for the instruments)
-A clearer way of seeing that what note sequence the soundscape is on.
It's still really fun to play with. Hopefully the dev plans on adding some extra features (saving instruments would be amazing).
Thanks so much for trying it out :)
I appreciate your suggestions, they are very similar to my wishes for the program and I will endeavour to add these features very soon.
Preset saving is on my mind, i just need to work out how to make it neat, either by conventional means or by using seed codes . Similarly i would like to create a better visualisation of what's going on ( i have improved it in V3 but appreciate there is the potential for a far better/prettier system to display the sequence as its played). I am currently trying to imagine how best to do it.
One thing that is coming imminently is a larger sound bank, i have more samples awaiting inclusion and I should get that out this weekend.
I started off making systems like this with Arduino just for fun. I was making sequencers for hardware synthesizers.

The whole thing started as an experiment rather than a well thought out plan. However work has been happening quite quickly with these programs and im hopeful i can eventually polish them up into something truly worthy of their aspirations
I'm really keen to get this program to where it ought to be, I've felt really unsure about its worth but I am really fascinated by the power of adding formula to simple note patterns. I also love the idea of music created without human intervention. And for that reason i keep going.
It really means a lot that other people can appreciate my strange ideas :) I am very motivated to honour you guys by way of updates.
I imagine you must have had a good play... your suggestions are very logical and Its inspiring to receive your thoughts on the program.
Please keep an eye out for updates, And again many thanks for the support and thoughtful words. I am extremely happy to know you have found enjoyment in the software.
Thank you for responding. I can't wait to see what gets added to this application in future. I'm so happy that my comment brought motivation, it truly is a special tool and will be part of my next game audio workflow.
The strangest ideas bring the most creativity, it's inspiring to see you put a lot of your Arduino work into an accessible format for all to play around with.
Looking forward to future updates and will be keeping an eye on this and your future projects/games. You have some truly unique games that bring tons of personality to itch.io :)
